ADHD & Autism Assessment
There are many reasons why people seek neurodevelopmental assessment. You may they have been experiencing symptoms such as difficulty with planning and organisation, directing attention, starting and finishing tasks, regulating behaviour, interpreting social cues, interacting with others or dealing with change. You may have been receiving treatment but feel progress has stalled. Sometimes clients request assessment after a family member has been diagnosed. If you are wondering whether ADHD and/or autism assessment is appropriate for you, you can book an initial session before committing to a full assessment. Assessment can be conducted in-clinic at Brunswick East, or online via telehealth.
ADHD and autism assessment involves:
-
An initial intake session where I gather information about you, your current functioning and reason for seeking assessment, explain the assessment process and confirm you would like to proceed.
-
2-4 sessions where I take a detailed history, screen for common co-occurring disorders that can influence symptoms and administer appropriate diagnostic assessment measures.
-
Several online assessments for you and another person who knows you well to fill out between sessions. (Note: if you feel there is no one you are confident can answer these questions, we can do the assessment based solely on your answers).
-
A comprehensive report that is yours to keep and can be given to other health care providers, schools, the NDIA, etc.
-
A feedback session where we discuss your results, I make recommendations and answer questions.

-
A Medicare rebate of $145.25 is available to clients of all ages for the initial session and feedback session with a mental health care plan from a GP. Clients under 25 can claim the rebate for an additional 4 assessment sessions with a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
-
The frontline treatment for ADHD is stimulant medication. Psychologists can NOT prescribe medication in Australia. If you are seeking assessment for ADHD only and are interested in medication, you will need to be assessed by a psychiatrist.
-
I outline the various options for diagnosis further in the intake session.
